How I Came to This Work

A long-standing interest in who we are beneath the surface.

I have always been drawn to the deeper questions: how our inner patterns form, why we protect ourselves the way we do, and who we are underneath all of it. I tend to approach those questions with curiosity rather than as problems to be solved.

Before this work, I practiced as a trial lawyer. The work demanded careful listening, attention to nuance, and the patience to stay with people under real pressure. Over time I grew less interested in the arguing and more interested in what was happening beneath it, in the moments of conflict, shutdown, and quiet longing that the legal frame had no room for.

That interest led me to Internal Family Systems and to the work I do today: helping people move past the noise of their conditioned patterns and reconnect with a calmer, clearer center. The credentials came along the way, but the deeper question is what has always held my attention. Who are we beneath the patterns, and what becomes possible when we reconnect with that?

How I See This Work

"I do not view people as broken or in need of fixing. Most of what we carry makes sense in context, as an adaptation to stress, to old wounds, and to environments that once called for exactly the strategies that are now in the way. Underneath all of it, something steady and whole remains. The work is to help you find your way back to it."

The Heart of It

Beneath the patterns, a Self that was never damaged.

For me, this work is not primarily about managing symptoms, valuable as that can be. What draws me is helping people reconnect with the part of themselves that exists beneath their wounds, defenses, and conditioning: the part that was never fundamentally damaged.

Much of what we take to be "ourselves" is actually a collection of adaptations. The inner critic, protective patterns, emotional habits, and beliefs we developed to navigate life. These parts deserve understanding and respect. They often emerged for good reasons. But they are not the entirety of who we are.

In Internal Family Systems, this deeper center is called the Self: calm, clear, compassionate, curious, and present. It is not something that needs to be created or earned. It is already there, even when it has been obscured by fear, pain, or years of living on autopilot.

My role is not to fix people, but to help them reconnect with that core. When people begin living from that place rather than from old wounds and protective strategies, they often find greater freedom, more meaningful relationships, and a deeper sense of purpose.

When we are guided by our deeper nature rather than our conditioning, we tend to suffer less, relate better, and move through life with greater clarity. To me, helping people rediscover that has always been the heart of this work.

The Way I Work

Collaborative, prepared, and focused on your inner awakening.

Beyond insight alone

Insight matters, but on its own it rarely changes much. You can read about psilocybin, the mystical experience, or inner work in the media, on forums like Reddit or Erowid, or hear about it from friends and family, and none of that replaces the experience itself. What tends to shift things is direct, lived contact: building a genuine relationship with the parts of you that have been carrying too much, so they no longer have to run things from the background.

Paced to your system

No one can force a mystical experience. But as Johns Hopkins researcher Roland Griffiths observed, the right conditions can occasion one with meaningful probability, when a person arrives at the right point in their life, with the right preparation of mind and setting. For some, reaching that depth takes time and several journeys. For many who are not carrying heavy struggle, it tends to come more readily. Either way it cannot be forced. My role is to prepare you well, create the conditions that make it most likely, and respect that the rest is beyond anyone's control.

All parts welcome

Including the contradictory ones, the inconvenient ones, and the parts that do not want to be here. In IFS terms, every part has a reason for what it does, and the work is to understand that reason rather than override it.

Connected to something steadier

Underneath the parts is a core Self that stays calm and clear even when life is not. Much of the work is clearing the path back to it, held in a spirit of empathy, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard. These are not soft additions to "real" technique. They are the conditions under which that reconnection actually happens.

Who I Work With

The medicine does not create wisdom. It helps reveal what is already there.

People who seek this work are often curious about themselves and open to growth. Some are looking to move beyond old patterns, others are searching for greater meaning, clarity, or connection. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit. Many people come simply because they sense there is more to discover about who they are and how they want to live. Common reasons people reach out include:

  • A desire to know themselves at a deeper level
  • Spiritual exploration and connection to a larger whole
  • Feeling stuck, or sensing there is more to who they are
  • A harsh inner critic, or patterns that will not quiet
  • Old wounds and unresolved past experiences
  • Anxiety, an overactive mind, or emotional numbness
  • Personal growth and a search for meaning
  • Reconnecting with a sense of aliveness and purpose
